Get to know the fabulous people behind the magic at One Future Collective.

Harshil Shah, Research Associate, Queer Resource Center

Tell us a little about yourself.
I’ve been passionate about social justice, gender studies and queer theory since university, when I really came to terms with my own queerness and identity. I absolutely love music and enjoy going to different music festivals. I spent two years in Madrid teaching English, working for an NGO called ‘Intersect Madrid’ (who run workshops tackling discrimination in the classroom) and making some of the best friends I’ve ever had in my life.

Tell us about what you do at One Future Collective?
I’m a Research Associate for the Queer Resource Centre. I write articles, and research/post about queer news happening in India as part of ‘In Focus’. In a short amount of time I’ve already learnt a lot, and I’ve gotten to interview some amazing activists like Pawan Dhall and Harish Iyer.

Why One Future Collective?
One Future Collective is one of the most welcoming and understanding environments I’ve ever worked in. I love that the organisation is women-led, and everyone in the team seems to be close and friendly. The team also stresses on the importance of self-care, and putting your mental health ahead of work.

Your favourite One Future Collective memory.
I’m still fairly new and so far I’ve been working completely remotely, but I will be based in Mumbai for a few months from September, so I am looking forward to creating some memories with the team!

What inspires you?
LGBTQ+ people (past and present) existing and being visible inspire me. Our very existence is radical, and seeing people be so unapologetically who they are inspires me to do the same everyday. Seeing photos from Mumbai Pride 2019 actually inspired me to go into LGBTQ+ activism and make sure that I will be present at the next pride march happening in Mumbai. I also take great inspiration from my friends, who I continually learn and grow from.
