A recap of what the team at One Future Collective has been up to, in the past month.

Panel Discussion: Sunshine Festival 2020, Mumbai

Our COO, Jerin Jacob was a panelist at the Sunshine Festival, 2020 held at 91 SpringBoard on the 4th January. The panel discussed about what corporate India could do better to make workplaces inclusive for queer individuals and the like.

Workshop: Media Mantra, SNDT University, Mumbai

On 4th January, our Program Director for Feminist Justice, Nishma Jethwa, led a workshop at SNDT Women’s University at their Media Mantra conference. The students and attendees explored what gendered violence is and the problematic ways in which it is currently portrayed in the media. They also talked about how gendered violence can be covered in an ethical and nuanced way as well as how media can better tackle rape culture.
 

Queer Quiz Night: Pride 2020, Mumbai

One Future Collective’s Queer Resource Centre hosted the 3rd edition of it’s Queer Quiz Nights at Independence Brewing Company on 8th January. The event was a fun, informative quiz night which helped one dive into India’s queer past and present. The event was held as a part of the Pride month celebrations in Mumbai and was attended by around 30 persons.

Workshop: Queer Allyship, Kranti NGO, Mumbai

Our Program Director for the Queer Resource Center, Shruti Venkatesh, conducted a workshop on Queer Allyship for the girls at Kranti NGO in Bandra on the 10th of January. The girls had a wonderful time learning from and engaging with her through the course of the workshop.

Feminist Futures #1 | Intersections of Identity and Violence, Bangalore and Mumbai

We recently rebranded our bimonthly Youth Meetups to call them Feminist Futures Meetups. The Feminist Futures is a curated space by One Future Collective that aims at engaging participants in critical inquiry and igniting dialogue on some of the most pressing issues of our time, with the aim of nudging behavioural shifts and building care. The Feminist Futures meetups are in person spaces for conversation on various themes towards this. The theme for our first round of meetups which happened on the 11th of January in Bangalore and Mumbai was delving into intersections between identity and violence. The meetup was a mix of facilitated conversations, activities and knowledge sharing.

Queer Self and Community Care Workshop, Bangalore and Mumbai

We hosted workshops on Self and Community Care for the LGBTQIA+ Community in Bangalore and Mumbai on the 19th of January. The workshops saw participants engaging with queer persons and allies in these cities and participating in discussions surrounding physical care, emotional and mental care, finding safe spaces, and building community care models.

Workshops: Personal Safety Education and Social Leadership, Ghatkopar Sarvajanik School, Mumbai

Our team members Jerin Jacob and Prerna Laddha hosted workshops on Personal Safety Training and Social Leadership to around 150 students of Ghatkopar Sarvajanik School on the 24th of January. These workshops were insightful for both the trainers and the students, and thus were an immense learning experience in all.

Clinic Helpline Launch: FemJustice Legal Center

Our Feminist Justice Legal Center, after an interactive workshop on Feminist Justice and Lawyering, launched its Legal Aid Helpline for survivors of gender based violence on the 25th of January. Please call the helpline at +91 9019548792 on Thursdays and Fridays between 12pm-4pm for legal aid with respect to cases of gender based violence, which includes cases of domestic violence and sexual violence as well.

Workshop: Gender Sensitisation, Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur

Our team members Vandita Morarka and Jerin Jacob hosted a workshop on Gender Sensitisation and Justice at the Hidayatullah National Law University in Raipur on the 30th of January. The workshop received great feedback and was attended by over 50 students.
