4-7 February 2019, Bangalore: The ‘Deconstructing Gender’ Certificate Course was a workshop series conducted at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) in Bangalore, from the 4th to the 7th of February 2019. 10 participants, students of the college showed up for the same.

On the first day, we focused on understanding concepts and terms related to gender. We also tried to create a safe space that was comfortable for all those who decided to come to the workshop. It was interesting to note the different backgrounds from which each participant came. We also did some fun theatre exercises and activities to help break the ice within the group, and to increase the sense and level of trust within the participants.

The workshops were interactive, and included a merging of theatre, theory, opinions and personal experiences. For the last bit, we discussed the impact of the workshop on every participant, and how it had helped or not helped them understand, realise and form informed opinions by themselves. Overall, the feedback was very positive and in itself, the course was a great peer learning experience for the participants.
