Moumita is a student of Anthropology. Her interest in the context-specific analysis of sexuality in India stems from her ethnographic work with the Savara tribe of Andhra Pradesh. She mapped the ‘construction of gender’ through primary socialization among children. Her lived experiences of occupying common spaces to assert her sexuality and identity have enabled her to realize how often women’s spaces are situated between or within the lands controlled by heterosexual men. She loves to explore the dominant groups’ hierarchical, gendered control over the language through the movies or series she watches and the books she reads. Apart from this, she is an avid reader and swimmer. She worked as a research associate at the Centre for Human Security Studies (CHSS). She initiated Model United Nations (MUN) training for teachers of (state government-funded) girls’ schools. It was an effort to bring MUN to female students who otherwise did not have accessibility to such private platforms.
